When he was five, his fathers drug addiction got the whole family in trouble and Joel had to hide under the bed while a dealer sought his step-mother and father for money they owed. Being that he was only two when his mother reluctantly handed over custody of Joel, he grew up thinking his father's wife was his real mother, so when she was shot in the hallway of their home, he had an epic meltdown hiding beneath his bed. His father was dragged outside, and Joel laid next to his step-mother as she slowly bled out. Even at 5, he knew his father was scum, and had the bruises and scrapes to prove it, but his mother wasn't. She was what kept him safe, and often times took the blows that were intended for Joel. That was the last time he ever knew what love felt like. Even early on in his life, Joel had a tough time seeing eye to eye with many of his elders and peers. This, of course, made him a difficult candidate for many foster homes or adoption possibilities. In fact, he never was adopted, but went from home to home until he was old enough to make it on his own. More often than not, Joel found himself in trouble with one person or another. Early on, he was often in trouble with the families he was temporarily placed with. Mostly because he very rarely saw eye to eye with them and refused to connect with them emotionally. Later on in his adolescent years, he began finding himself on the wrong side of the law, which earned him a hefty record and time in juvie before he was 19. although he was never lucky enough to find a forever home with any of the families that had fostered him, Joel did come close once. when he was around 15, he was fostered by the Breckinridge family, which was his longest temporary family he had stayed with during his years as a foster child. despite not wanting to get his hopes up for the obvious reasons, he had found himself a family he could comfortably be himself around. although, in typical Joel fashion, he also found himself another family that would inevitably kick him to the curb for what was constantly cited as his attitude problems. when he was 16, and feeling uncharacteristically happy of his familial accomplishments and getting more comfortable with the people he was living with, it all went to shit in the blink of an eye. while there was some bonding within the family, Joel found himself on the wrong side of a nasty set of kids who wanted nothing more than to send him back into the system and watch him suffer. it's to be said that, for once in his incredibly un-blessed life, Joel Haywood was innocent. after a series of obnoxious pranks that got him in more trouble than he was even worth, he snapped and let fists fly. because no one ever heard him stand up for himself, something he refused to do knowing a kid with questionable morals and history would always cite innocence, no one believed him when he vehemently tried to explain what happened. thus, rendering him completely without a family yet again, and now with a whole new chip on his shoulder, Joel waved the flag and went back to being alone and putting up heavy brick walls to keep everyone else out. There came a point when he realized the system would do nothing for him and that he was no longer in need of their help. After another several months staying within the confines of the system, he slipped away after school and bunked with a classmate until he was no longer welcomed and found himself bouncing from couch to couch throughout his final year of school. As the transition is generally hard on at risk youths, joel knew once he was out of school and on the streets, he was going to have to learn to take care of himself. And he did, in the most unsavory ways he could have possibly done so. Despite never doing drugs, he did sell prescription painkillers for a short time. These were lifted out of the medicine cabinets of homes he broke into after casing them for a short period of time. Thankfully for joel, this period in his life only lasted a few weeks before he smartened up and found more legal ways to make ends meet. Fast forward to the next time his life fell apart after several years of trying to get his shit together, and one would see joel nose to nose with a police officer vehemently justifying his motives and actions just before getting kicked out of the police academy. Despite finishing ¾ of his training, joel washed out of the academy during the last couple of weeks due to, once again, poor performance an a bad attitude towards his peers. Once again, he found himself in another precarious position, weighing his options on whether or not he wanted to go back into training, or throw the proverbial towel in and move on with his life. Unsurprisingly, he chose the latter and went on to work a dozen different jobs until he landed on the front step of Wallach, where he has made the steady crawl upward. ![]() Jason Todd was a young street orphan who first encountered the Dark Knight while attempting to steal the tires of the Batmobile. Bruce Wayne sees to it that Jason is placed in a school for troubled youths. But it turns out the school was secretly the main headquarters for a band of thieves. Jason earned the mantle of Robin a short while later by helping Batman apprehend the gang of thieves.
However, Todd does not wear the Robin costume (an improved version of) until after six months of training. Batman realized that while Jason doesn't possess Dick Grayson's acrobatic skills, he can become a productive crimefighter by channeling his rage. He also believes that if he doesn't help the boy, Jason will eventually become part of the "criminal element." Jason also aided Batman while Gotham City was temporarily overrun by Deacon Blackfire. It is later revealed that Jason indeed had died at the hands of the Joker, but when Superboy-Prime alters reality from the paradise dimension in which he is trapped (six months after his death), Jason is restored to life and breaks out of his coffin, but collapses thereafter and is hospitalized. After spending a year in a coma and subsequently as an amnesiac vagrant, he is recognized by Talia al Ghul. She spends several years trying to help restore Jason to full health, but the mental damage appears too extensive. Jason's is still able to fight, due to muscle reflex, but he appears to have no awareness of the situation. Talia's father, Ra's al Ghul sees Jason as a lost cause and orders him to be eliminated. In a last ditch effort to save him, Talia restores Jason's health and memory by immersing him in a Lazarus Pit in which her father is also bathing. It is suggested at that exposure to the Pit's energies together with Ra's might have affected Jason's personality. On Talia's advice, Jason determines his death was never avenged, and prepares to confront Batman by traveling across the globe in the same path of training as his mentor. read more here • genius level intellect • criminology • multilingualism • demolitions • advanced hand-to-hand combat • intimidation • firearms • stealth • tracking • 'J' scar • swordmanship • investigation • acrobatics • surveillance • red robin suit • robin suit • memories of gotham • memories of the outlaws • memories of the challengers • middle name is the same • last name is jason's biological mother's last name • his mother is an aid worker oversees. • morally ambiguous to a fault • some semblance of a relationship with the batfam • foster brat • name similarities with parents • attended an at risk youth school due to poor performance & attitude problems • has ties to many of the teen titans Jason is pulled from New Earth.
